Amanda and Michael Grundmann needed wedding invitations. They weren't exactly sure what they wanted, and left it to Splendid Corp. to come up with ideas.
Knowing that Amanda was wearing a vintage style wedding dress with an interesting light blue sash and buttons, I picked two different shades of cornflower blue for the colors. Also knowing they were getting married outdoors at a restaurant with a french country-inspired setting, I researched imagery from the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movement. Many of these designs had an organic feel, and parts of the plants almost looked like letters. I created a monogram of the first initials of the bride and groom in this style, and linked them together to symbolically tie the knot using these letterforms.
The cards were printed by hand on fine printmaking paper using a hand-cranked letterpress.
