I fell in love
with Matt & Kim this summer, along with lots of other folks. First I saw
their Yeah Yeah video and thought it was the best thing i'd seen
in a while and proceeded to send it to all my friends with evangelical accolades.
I had heard mention
of them here and there in emails about shows in brooklyn, but finally caught
them at the Siren Music Festival and that sealed the deal. They charmed the
pants off the crowd, with Kim's enthusiastic drumming and Matt's earnest singing
and witty banter, both of them grinning the whole time. There was a super
enthuisiastic crowd who obviously knew all their songs and were singing along,
it seemed weird that there was this huge stage and security wall, this was
a show that would happen in your friends basement (or in brooklyn terms, loft
in bushwick). I love that the kids of today have found pop punk love songs,
the earnest kind, that reminds me of being in art school, silkscreening and
doing design projects, listening to jawbreaker and the descendents and biking
to see local bands rip it up in basements and small clubs. Matt & Kim
bring the happy fun times that are needed and welcome.
