Oh Jackie Mitoo, sometimes you are right, I do want to get on the last train to ska-ville. This album is a perfect train ride into an era where ska was transforming into rocksteady, and taking into account a healthy dose of funk and soul. Jackie and The Soul Brothers take you for a ride on a groove that never stops. With the chicka chicka percussion, electric organ, echoey spoken intros and songs like Voodoo Moon and Got My Boogaloo, this album has an atmosphere of mystery and groove that gets me from the start. Jackie was one of the founding members of the Ska-ta-lites, one of the greatest bands of all time, and this is the band that formed at Studio One after the Skatalites first broke up. This one has been on heavy rotation for a couple years now and I can always come back to it, like a comforting friend. Its good for a nightime road trip down a dark highway or a home grown dance party. Not to mention that as always Soul Jazz Records brings the amazing packaging design to the table, dig this beautiful cover.   BACK
