Battles are a band that are on some other level. This is what math rock turns into when you have seasoned musicians who aren't content to play one instrument at a time or any defined and tired style of music. Their new album adds fascinating munchkin vocals by Ty Braxton, crazy syncopated guitar and keyboard parts by Dave Konopka and Ian Williams that synch up and sometimes don't, all anchored by the heavy heavy drumming by John Stanier.
